Tumblr Question #11

Anonymous asked:

So, I like this guy and hes kinda unpopular. But that’s why I like him. But i never see him but I need a way to be able to tell him I like him or at least giving him my number without seeming too stupid

Violet responded:

Just walk right up to him and start a conversation, like “Hi, I see you around a lot, wanna talk?”  Be yourself while talking to him and don’t be afraid.  If you’re just yourself then he’ll like you for who you are.

You’d be surprised how many times it works. I’ve met too many friends like that…

Tumblr Question #10

by Sam on February 3, 2013 at 12:21 am
Posted In: blog, Blogs

Anonymous asked:

Me and my boyfriend of 1 year had sex around a month ago. We’re both underaged (15) and he is forcing me to tell my mom about it before his mom calls my mom tomorrow. I dont know what to do. Please help 🙁

Violet responded:

To be honest, I’m not sure exactly what to say in this sort of situation.  I’ll try my best though.

Regardless of what you do, your mother will always love you, and I think she would rather hear that you’re having sex with your boyfriend from you, rather than your boyfriend’s mother.  Yes, you might be in trouble after you tell her for a little while, but in the long run she’ll appreciate that you told her, and that you trust her enough to tell her about your transition into adulthood.

Unless you’re from a religion that’s very extreme about not having sex while under-aged, you should be ok.  Sex is a very adult thing to do, and even though you’re only 15, it’s better that your mother knows that you’re safe.

If you are from one of those religions that are very strict about sex, then I’m sorry but I don’t know how to help you in that situation.  All I can do is hope that you’re safe.

It’s important to keep a line of communication open with your mother.  She’ll always be there for you, regardless of your actions.  She might get angry afterwards, but before you tell her, make sure you tell her that you’re trying to do the adult thing by telling her this.  It’s scary growing up, and I think everyone would like to have a parent there to help us when we’re scared to go forward.  Just make sure to tell her before your boyfriend’s mom.

How to Deal with Friends who Lie

by Sam on February 2, 2013 at 10:12 pm

I’m pretty sure everyone has that one friend who’s a compulsive liar.  They tell you lie after lie, breaking commitments with you and giving that bogus excuse, tell you that they’ll call you back, but never do.  It’s frustrating.  It’s heartbreaking.  You’re getting tired of it.  I’ve come across more than my fair share of friends who are willing to lie to me, whether I understand why they do this or not.  And hopefully writing about this problem and how I deal with it will help you people reading this, the people I’m friends with, and me at some level.

1. How to Identify When Your Friends are Lying to You

So you suspect that your friend is lying to you.  Well you’re pretty sure anyway because there are just some clues that stand out.  Like how hey say they’re in one place, but then you talk to another friend who’s with them in a completely different place.  Or how they say they have too much work to go to your party, and you see that they posted about 50 different things on Facebook during your party.

The thing about friends who lie is that you can always a way to find out the truth.  Compare what they say to what they post on Facebook.  People will always post something on their Facebook whether it is the truth or a lie, but if they’re posting something, then you have the ability to compare that with what they tell you.  Talking to mutual friends also helps.  See what they’re being told by the friend.  Also talking to their family will help you discern the truth.

2. Why They Lie

Why do these people lie to you?  They’re your friends, right?  So aren’t friends supposed to be honest with one another?  Well, you have to look at it from their perspective.   Maybe they’re depressed and they don’t want you to worry about them, so they lie to you to make it seem like they’re ok.  Maybe they’re upset that they don’t do anything, so they lie to make it look like their busy all the time.  Maybe they’re jealous of some of the things you’ve got accomplished, so they want to impress you with a lie.   Maybe they lie to themselves because they want to make themselves feel better.   Maybe they think that if they lie enough, one day that lie will become the truth.

There are many reasons to lie, all of them really bad reasons, but why would they want to lie to you?

Because you’re special. You want to be their friend.  You make time out of your busy schedule to see them, and they know it.  They want to have that certain ability, whether it be courage, discipline, or even social skills, so that they could be a better friend to you.  Unfortunately, they’re just doing themselves more harm than good.

3.  How to Get Them to Stop Lying

This however can be the trickiest thing of them all.  The thing is, you can’t make them stop lying to you.  All you can do is help them the best you can.

Ask direct questions.  Yes or no questions work the best.  Don’t let them ramble on and on with excuses, just a simple yes or no answer will help.

Converse with your friends on how to help them.  Make sure that your mutual friends are aware of their lying and that they also start to help.

Tell your friend that their lies hurt you.  Them being aware that their lies hurt, and hopefully they’ll try to change.

Do not have an intervention where the result is an ultimatum.  Ultimatums make people very upset, and you never know if your friend is depressed.  Ultimatums will make your depressed friends just spiral downwards.  Be nice.  Offer to help them with their problem.

Talk with their family.  Siblings are a great way to know how the house situation is, and a lot of the time they’ll be more than willing to help.

Again, you can’t force them to stop lying to you, only they can.  All you can do is help then realize that it’s a problem.

The Friend Zone part 4

The Other Side of the Friend Zone

I’m honestly more surprised that there is no name for the people who have friends who have feelings for them.  A lot of the time, these people are vilified because they won’t date the person they friend zoned.  I honestly think that’s wrong.  You can’t vilify people just because of their preference not to date their best friend.

Believe it or not, these are people too.  They have lives.  They have their preferences.  They have their dislikes.  They have friends, partners, parents, family, thoughts, feelings, all those things that you have too.

They’re wonderful people. Why else would people like them?  They have that certain something that just makes you happy.  But what do they think of their friends?  Do they see them as possible partners?  Or do they see them as friends?

That is entirely up to them.  Some of them will probably realize that their friend likes them.  Others will have no clue at all.  Some will say yes, others will say no.

Regardless, they’re people.  People who want friends.  People who want lovers.  People who want just sex.  People who don’t want sex.

In short, the friend zone doesn’t just affect the person in it.  It doesn’t have to be a bad thing.  The friend zone doesn’t have to be a prison that you’re shunned to forever.  You live by the choices you make.  Don’t dwell on failures.  Keep striving towards what makes you happy.

The Friend Zone part 3

Leaving the Friend Zone (and when it’s ok to try)

There may be some of you who are willing to try and leave the friend zone.  For those of you who are, good luck to you.  A lot of the time, there’s a reason why you’re their friend and not their partner.  Here are some tips and rules you should take into consideration though.

1. Don’t try to date your friend if they are dating someone else.

This is just mean and unfair to your friend.  If you do this, you’re putting pressure not only on their relationship, but on your friendship as well.  It’s just unfair.

2. Try being their friend and not a pet.

What I mean by this is be there for them, but don’t always be waiting for them.  Don’t always jump when they ask you to jump.  Be a person.  You’re their friend, not their dog.  Be their friend.  Have fun together, talk about your insecurities, and most of all, don’t push yourself on them.

3. Live your own life

Another way to say this is “make yourself scarce”.  You have your life; you don’t have to wait for their call.  No one is worth that much trouble that you stop your own life for someone else.

4. Tell them that you love them, but that you also value your friendship.

Be honest with them.  Tell them that you’re in love with them.  However, also tell them that you value your friendship more, and no matter what, you’ll be their friend first.  This shows that you value their happiness over your desire to be with them.  Your feelings shouldn’t ruin a friendship, especially if you just expect them to jump directly into a relationship with you.  If you’re only their friend to get into their pants, then you’re not really their friend.  True friends will always be that first.

5. No means no.

If they don’t want to be in a relationship with you, then that’s that.  Don’t push the subject.  If you don’t like it, then tough.  If you can’t handle that, then stop being their friend.  It’s not worth it to you or to them.

Hopefully these will help.  If it works, then great.  If it doesn’t, there are literally 6 billion other people in the world.  You don’t need to fixate on one.
