Here in Canada and the states, it’s called Where’s Waldo, but apparently it was originally made and published in England by Martin Handford starting in 1987 under the name Where’s Wally. It seems each other language has it’s own name for him, like French, where he is name Charlie (Waldo isn’t a french friendly name) German, like erdbeere said, is Walter (which ironically is Wally’s full name) and Vallu in Finnish. Wally is used in English, Dutch, Italian, (In Icelandic he is called Valli, which is close enough), Polish, Portuguese and Spanish.

My question here is: Odlaw, the villain who looks like a mustached waldo wearing yellow and black clothes and blue glasses…. his name is Waldo spelled backwards…. In the lands where Waldo is named Wally, is Odlaw named Yllaw? or Retlaw?

As to Waldo: Maybe Wally isn’t as widespread as Waldo in North America?

He’s called Wally in the UK. It’s ‘Where’s Wally?’ as opposed to “Where’s Waldo?’

Anyone have any idea why they changed the name? I didn’t even think Waldo was an actual name?!
