I think you have a nice experiment here, put three glasses; one with white wine, one with red and one with cider and see which one works the best and simply multiply your result.

Get a small jar, a plastic bag, a rubber band and some apple cider (or anything liquid that’s fruity and sugary). Partially fill the jar with the cider, then seal it with the plastic bag so that one corner hangs into the jar. Poke a tiny hole in the very tip of the corner, and set in an open place.

The smell of the cider will attract the fruit flies, which then become trapped by the plastic bag. Empty and refill the jar as the fruit flies die off.

Seriously, it’s cheap, but works really well.
